Join us on February 17, 2024, for our 5th Annual Frozen Chosin Hike, with teams participating nationwide. The hike pays tribute to the brave warriors of the Korean War, "The Forgotten War," by highlighting The Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, a brutal 17-day battle fought in harsh sub-zero temperatures.
Each year, this event strengthens connections between the WRF team, our supporters, and the communities they live in, while raising awareness about our mission of reconnecting America's warriors.

The Battle of Chosin Reservoir
WRF's Frozen Chosin Hike honors all American service members who fought bravely during the Korean War, while highlighting the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
During the vicious 17-day battle, 30,000 UN soldiers were surrounded by 120,000 Chinese soldiers in the mountainous terrain surrounding the Chosin Reservoir. The situation was further complicated by the bitterly cold weather, with temperatures estimated to be as low as -36 degrees. Surrounded and severely outnumbered, a "withdraw" was ordered." Retreat, Hell! We're attacking in a different direction!"
This quote, attributed to Marine Major General Oliver Smith, Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division in Korea, when asked if the Marines were retreating, sums up the fighting spirit that existed among those who would fight their way out of the Chosin Reservoir.
The Marines and soldiers battled through the Chinese lines...
... and eventually reached relative safety. This included, in some instances, fighting through the Chinese lines to reinforce fellow units so no one would be left behind.
